Technical & Class

Studies, plans and approvals, done properly the first time.

We prepare the studies, plans and manuals your vessels need under IMO, IACS and flag rules, handle the submissions to class and flag, and attend on board when the work needs it.

Technical studies

Answers you can act on, with the numbers behind them.

Regulatory gap analysis

Which new rules apply to each vessel, by when, what has to be done and roughly what it costs, in one table per fleet.

Retrofits and upgrades

Feasibility, specification and approval support for ballast water systems, energy-saving devices and other equipment changes.

Stability and loading

Lightweight changes after modifications, new loading conditions, grain heeling moments and loading computer updates.

Performance and efficiency

Hull and propeller condition, engine performance and the return on cleaning, coatings and devices, from your own data.

Damage and incident assessment

Technical review after damage or a machinery failure: what happened, what class will ask for, and the repair options.

Dry-dock planning

Repair specification, yard quotations compared line by line, attendance and daily cost control.

Plans & manuals

Written for your vessel, ready for approval.

We draft new documents and revise existing ones after modifications, rule changes or audit findings, submit them for approval where needed, and follow the comments through to the stamp.

New rules in 2026

Two that matter for geared bulk carriers.

SOLAS II-1/3-13 · MSC.1/Circ.1663

Lifting appliances

Existing cranes need a load test, a thorough examination, permanent SWL marking and documentary evidence of the SWL by the first Safety Construction renewal survey on or after 1 January 2026, with a register kept on board.

We prepare the register, the SWL evidence and the maintenance routines for the planned maintenance system, and plan the tests with class.

Grain: partly filled, ends untrimmed

A fourth loading condition since 1 January 2026 can save trimming time, but only for ships whose grain loading manual has an approved addendum and whose loading computer has been updated.

We calculate the heeling moments, prepare the addendum, submit it for approval and coordinate the loading computer update.

Class & flag

We deal with class and flag for you.

  • Plan and document submissions, and comments followed to approval
  • Survey planning: annual, intermediate, special and dry-dock
  • Conditions of class and recommendations closed out
  • Flag approvals, exemptions and dispensations
  • Statutory certificate questions and renewals

Attendances

On board when it matters.

  • Attendance at class and flag surveys and audits
  • Dry-dock attendance, progress and cost reporting
  • Attendance at load tests and thorough examinations of cargo gear
  • Follow-up after port state control findings

Superintendent on call

A technical department, when you need one.

For owners who run a lean office, a monthly retainer gives you a named superintendent who knows your vessels: questions answered, documents reviewed, class correspondence handled and attendances arranged, with the hours reported each month.

It pairs well with Noon Report Analysis: the superintendent sees the same figures you do, every day.
